EWA Timeline

There are 5 main, key stages in the EWA process. Make sure you take care in each stage to hit the criteria necessary. Obtaining an EWA temporary card gives you a maximum of 18 months to complete the assessment, before expiring. Completing all stages allows a candidate to build their portfolio and prove that they have the competency to hold and obtain a ECS Gold Card. The five main stages are:

  1. Declaration of Interest
  2. Registration
  3. ECS Testing
  4. Assessment Stage
  5. Interview Stage

The Five Stages

  1. Declaration of Interest

The first stage is declaration of interest. This is where a candidate will initially declare that they are interested in registering for the BEMS EWA scheme. The team will review and process this interest and then send out an application form. Completing this form will allow the team to decide whether to accept or reject an application and move them to the next stage

  2. Registration

This stage is after your successful application, and you will be able to register for the programme. You will be shown our IAG and be able to check this is the right option for you. Most of the information will be pulled through from your application form. So, candidates do not have to repeat themselves. You will be asked however to submit a CV and a photograph of yourself.

  3. ECS Testing

After completing and registering for the EWA, you will receive an email confirming your ECS Test

Please ensure you follow the instructions carefully; you could fail the test if you do not. You must achieve an overall pass mark of 60%, if you don’t, we can support you with additional learning resources. You will be notified of your score and if you have passed you will be able to log back into the EWA portal.

  4. Assessment Stage

There are three duty groups within the assessment, meaning that each duty can be covered. This can be done via a Skills Assignment, and with Witness Testimonies. This must all be your own work and verified by your employer/sponsor. These will all be reviewed and evaluated by a qualified assessor, to ensure a fair an accurate assessment process. Resubmissions are also possible.

  5. Interview Stage

The interview stage is where the candidate will be placed in front of a technical expert to demonstrate their knowledge skills and competency. After completion of the interview, and sign off from the technical expert, candidates will be put to ECS to receive their new Gold Card.
