What is an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships combine on-the-job training with classroom learning. They provide the skills needed for individuals to succeed in their chosen career whilst providing the opportunity to achieve nationally recognised qualifications.

The skills and qualifications you achieve during an apprenticeship are transferable. Apprentices are supported and encouraged to take on varied tasks and pick up new skills. Businesses employing Apprentices have spent time and money training their people. There are many benefits that come from investing in quality training – Apprentices become motivated, bring fresh and innovative skills and knowledge to the business. Staff are more likely to stay with an employer who has invested in them.

Group Horizon specialise in a range of training programmes across core sectors. These are tailored to specific job roles within businesses to assist growth and increase productivity.

Apprenticeship Levy

The Apprenticeship Levy has altered the way employers and the government fund Apprenticeship training in the UK. It’s aim is to support the target of 3 million Apprenticeships starts between now and 2020.

From April 2017 employers with a pay bill over £3m per year have been required to pay 0.5% of that into the Levy. For example, if an employer has a pay bill of £5m, it will pay £25,000. The government will offset levy payments with a contribution of £15,000 and is also matching employers’ payments with a 10% top up for every £1 paid in.
